LAKELAND — On the outside wall of Southside Cleaners, across from the 7-Eleven convenience store facing South Florida Avenue, the second of three murals commissioned by the Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency is taking shape, courtesy of muralist Timothy Haas.

Greg Myers, owner of Southside Cleaners, paid for the paint, which was special ordered for the project, Haas said.

The sprawling ocean, outer space, Steampunk scene features what looks like a moonscape, coupled with whales swimming, a spinning nebula and an airship set to explore the world. The edges of the mural are painted to look like a page torn out of a book, or a hole torn in the wall.

Haas still has to add a couple of children and a dog and the mural will be complete, he said.
