Reclaiming the Public Realm

3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Key West BCD

Walkability is indispensable to the design of healthy communities. Not only does a walkable public realm provide a multitude of social benefits, but environmental and economic benefits can be measured as well. Student presenters will facilitate an interactive discussion with conference attendees on walkability and urban redevelopment. We will apply walkability concepts such as image ability, enclosure, human scale, transparency and complexity to a “Mills 50” street segment. The presenters will discuss the results of their walkability analysis and compare the results of the attendees’ interactive discussion with their recommendations.
