City of Fort Pierce Issues Request for Qualifications for the Redevelopment of the Former H.D. King Plant Property

The City of Fort Pierce and Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) invite interested parties to submit a Statement of Qualifications for the redevelopment of the property known as the former H.D. King Plant site located at 311 Indian River Drive.

Situated in the heart of Downtown Fort Pierce, the H.D. King site was the former home of the electricity generating facility for the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority. The facility was demolished in 2008 and the site underwent a series of soil remediation processes. The remediation has been completed and the site offers approximately 7.2 acres for redevelopment. The City of Fort Pierce and FPRA are soliciting qualifications and proposals from qualified individuals, developers, or firms to design and develop a mixed-use project on the property that includes a hotel. The City is seeking creative development proposals that incorporate the elements and guiding principles outlined in the solicitation based on board and community input.

This property is perfectly positioned, offering unparalleled views of the pristine Indian River Lagoon, masterfully redesigned City Marina, and Historic Downtown Fort Pierce. The site is within walking distance to dining, arts, entertainment, and a vast variety of regularly scheduled special events.

Home to one of the country’s most idyllic and historic main streets, anchored by the historic Sunrise Theatre, and a small town gem according to an article in USA Today, Fort Pierce offers rich culture, history, and a vibrant waterfront. Fort Pierce also boasts a plethora of transportation linkages including highways, railways, a customs-serviced international airport, and a deep-water port – all of which enable easy access to all that Fort Pierce has to offer.

The City of Fort Pierce is experiencing revitalization in both the downtown and surrounding areas. Recently named one of the most beautiful main streets in America by Reader’s Digest, Fort Pierce has many strong attributes that support continued reinvestment like a growing residential population, easily accessible waterfront location, unique visitor attractions, and miles of unspoiled beaches.
