Since its inception in 1984, the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has worked diligently to make the District’s waterfront more accessible to everyone. One of its newest initiatives on this front is the equipment slated for the Riviera Beach Marina Village that is designed to assist visitors who may find it challenging to navigate the sand and water. First will be the installation of a five-foot-wide ADA-compatible (Americans with Disabilities Act) MOBI-brand Beach Mat that extends 50 feet from the sidewalk down to the beach. The MOBI Beach Mat then extends another 60 feet adjacent to the edge of the Intracoastal. Beachgoers who rely on wheelchairs and other aids for their mobility, as well as families pushing kids in strollers and toting rolling coolers, etc., will find traversing the sand a lot less cumbersome atop the portable mesh walkway. In addition, three MOBI Floating Wheelchairs are slated to be purchased following the Beach Mats, giving people with disabilities an opportunity to enjoy the water in a way they might not have experienced.
